To my fellow Americans,
My name is Johnny Buss. Many of you know me as a sports team manager and executive. During my career I have had the great privilege and pleasure to serve in management for the Strings of World Team Tennis, the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, and alongside my father’s team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Some of you may know me from my years in real estate management, or even my car and motorcycle racing days. Still others remember me from my work with Earvin Johnson supporting AIDS research, Producing fitness videos, or owning the world renowned comedy club, The Ice House. And of course, the most important role I have is being a father of two young boys. And like every parent, I worry about the future for my children. Will they have the same opportunities I had? What will working and living be like for them and for their own children? Will they still live in a democracy? What challenges will they face? Like many American children, my sons are multi-racial - will they have a fair shot at being successful? These are the questions that started me on my path to the Presidency. I care deeply about my children – and I care deeply about your children, too. And– I love America. I love all that we stand for as a country: the chance for anyone to get ahead, our belief in democracy, our commitment to justice and freedom of speech. I love Americans. We are a hard-working, resilient people. We build strong families and strong communities. We invent new technology and hold tight to our traditions. When faced with tragedy, we come together and we hold each other up. We persevere. We are America Strong. I love America. But I am deeply disturbed by the increased partisanship of recent years, because we have forgotten that, in the end, we are all on the same team. I am disturbed by the failures of our political leaders – from our current inflationary economy that makes it hard for so many of us to get ahead, to our schools that are underfunded, under attack, and unsafe for our children. I am disturbed by the inequities in our society – we will never level the playing field for everyone if we don’t finally and fully address the history of discrimination against Black Americans, against women, against immigrants, against disabled people, and against the working class. In the America I love, every single person will have access to quality education and skills training, meaningful opportunities to participate in society and in the economy, safe housing, access to health care without the threat of bankruptcy, and a safe and clean environment. And when it comes time for elections, Americans should have choices that excite them and create a sense of unity and hope for our shared future. These are some of the reasons I am running for President. I want to offer Americans a different choice. I want to bring integrity and trustworthiness back to the Oval Office. I am not a politician or a movie star. I am a sports fan, a dad, and an experienced businessman. I know how to build strong teams that can get things done. I know I need to listen more than I talk, so I can hear both the needs and the expertise of others. I know how to consider all options and then make good decisions. Most of all, I care. I care about America, and I care about you. I am going to spend the time between now and the elections listening to you, the American people. Whatever problems we face, I believe we can solve them together. I would be honored for you to follow my campaign. I hope you will be surprised and pleased. In your service, Johnny Buss |
